How to Clean your Scorpion?"I love my Scorpion, but how do you recommend I clean it?" Customers tell us they love the way their new Scorpion performs and they want to make sure to keep it that way. The great thing about the Scorpion is that it's been designed to require very little maintenance. In fact, we only recommend a light lube on the bolt and no lube on the internal trigger components. Wait, what? Did we just say little or no lube is needed? Yes we did, and we know this is the opposite of what most people think about maintaining their firearms. Our goal was to design and build a pistol that requires very little lubrication. Reducing lubrication allows the pistol to stay much cleaner, as there is less moisture to collect residue. We accomplish this by using premium finishes, like the DLC coating found on our Competition Bolt. This finish is extremely hard and smooth, which gives the illusion that the bolt is lubricated while still dry to the touch. So back to the original question - how do we recommend cleaning our Scorpion? Let's start with the barrel. We recommend a pull through cleaning kit that cleans the barrel from breech to muzzle. We have some recommendations of pull through kits that work best. We recommend pulling a kit through every 400-500 rounds. The chamber can be cleaned as needed with nothing more than a simple cotton swab. If your Scorpion features a compensator you may want to read this, as it will require a little more cleaning. The bolt and frame require very little maintenance. We recommend field stripping and cleaning the pistol every 2000-2500 rounds. Once stripped, wipe the bolt down and clean the internal trigger components. There is no reason to completely disassemble the frame. We recommend using a cloth or cotton swab to clean as much as you can get to inside the frame. The sear face and hammer notch are most important. "So how do I field strip the pistol?" This is another question that comes up daily. Check out this video for tips and tricks on how to do this. As crazy as it sounds, we've found that a lot more problems occur by "over-cleaning" the pistol than not cleaning it enough. We do recommend cleaning your pistol prior to storing it a month or more though regardless of the number of rounds put through it. So there you have it, no more stressing out on how to care for your Volquartsen Scorpion. |
