Happy Father's Day

Do you remember when you were introduced to the shooting world? For many of us, our first introduction to firearms came from our father. Whether it was that first BB gun, first .22 rifle, first .410 shotgun, first trip to the range or even the first hunt you went on - there is a good chance it was with your Dad.

As a kid, I grew up with firearms all around me, but it's those times I got to go shooting with Dad that I'll always remember. We used an old weight bench as our "shooter's bench" where I would shoot my pellet gun into a bullet trap we had in our basement. This was back in the early 1980's, when Dad had converted our basement into his "shop" for Tom's Gun Bluing.

It wasn't just the actual shooting that I enjoyed but getting to tinker with firearms as well. I can recall the first time Dad showed me how to disassemble a Ruger 10/22. I really thought I was something as a young kid getting to "build guns." As I have gotten older, I realize that my idea of "building guns" back then may have been skewed but don't tell a 10 year old that!

There is no better feeling than getting an email from a customer sharing similar experiences with their son or daughter. We also see it take place across the country at a variety of rimfire matches. In fact, I just received an email this week from a gentleman that brought his young grandson to the 2017 NSSF Iowa State Championship held this past weekend.

Something tells me that his grandson will remember that experience with his Grandfather for many years to come. This is just one of many stories we hear. This Father's Day weekend is a great time to get out and make those same type memories.

Do you have a favorite shooting memory with your Dad? If so, we would love to hear about it.

Happy Father's Day to each and every one of you.

Sincerely,

Scott Volquartsen
