Extraction Problems?

Cheyenne 2017 Worlds

Do you own one of these firearms?

  • Ruger MK series pistol
  • Ruger 10/22
  • S&W Victory 22
  • S&W Model 41
  • Remington 597
  • Remington 870/1100
  • Walther P22

If so, have you experienced extraction problems?

I'm not sure about you, but one of my biggest aggravations at the range is the dreaded failure to extract (FTE). It can take a relaxing day at the range and completely turn it upside down. The FTE can take on many forms - everything from a stovepipe to a round that is stuck in the chamber.

The stovepipes are easy to clear but the stuck round now requires you to dig for your knife or screwdriver in order to dig that round from the chamber. After a few minutes you finally clear the round and hopefully have not damaged or scratched anything in the process.

Our line of Exact Edge Extractors are designed to eliminate these annoying failure to extract problems. These extractors are available as a standalone part or in a variety of kits and bolts but are all designed to do the same thing.

How is this done? All of our extractors are wire EDM cut from A2 tool steel. Why tool steel and not titanium? This is because we are able to harden tool steel to a Rc 54-56, which is considerably harder than we can take titanium. Titanium is great for certain applications, but not for this. This hardness ensures the extractor's hook will not round over during repeated cycling.

In addition to the hardness of the extractor, we use a much sharper "hook point" on the extractor allowing for more positive engagment with the spent cartridge. The geometry of this "hook point" serves two purposes - it engages more of the cartridge and stays in contact with the rim of the cartridge as it travels rearward to the ejector. So many failures to extract come from the round simply falling off the extractor prior to reaching the ejector.

VC10EEOne question that comes up regularly is the bevel (see picture on right) that is machined on the bottom of our Exact Edge Extractor for the Ruger MK series of pistols and the Ruger 10/22. This is not a flaw but is in fact intentional in order to improve feeding from the magazine.

Order your extractor today and see the difference it makes.
