Day at the Range

Scott in WY

Are you feeling stressed out? If so, you aren't alone. In today's world, it seems like we spend the majority of our time checking our phone, catching up on the latest social media or behind our monitors getting that last minute project done.

What's one way to get away from it all? Get to the range - even if it's just for an hour or so! There's no better way to relax than sending rounds down range. There's something therapeutic about the smell of gunsmoke, the sound of spent brass hitting the concrete, and the sight of a tight grouping on a paper target. You might be saying to yourself you simply don't have time to get to the range. I have been guilty of that too, but I have found auditing my time seems to fix that. Do I really need to check Instagram or Facebook one more time? Do I need to watch one more series on Netflix?

Why do I choose the range? It requires complete concentration and focus on the task at hand. As a result, it keeps my mind from wandering to all those outside stressors. For me, that singular focus is a great way to reduce stress. If at all possible, choose an outdoor range. We are indoors enough already in our busy lives so the range gives us an opportunity to get outside and away from distractions.

Next time you head to the range, consider bringing somebody new. It's a great way to introduce somebody to shooting. Is there anything better than seeing that telltale smile as an individual goes from learning how to handle a firearm to hitting their target? It'll also bring back memories of your early days on the range and that same satisfaction that you felt hitting that first target.

There's a lot you can learn at the range, and it's not all necessarily firearms related. In our upcoming 2019 catalog we are excited to feature an exclusive article from Katie Pavlich on life's most valuable lessons learned on the gun range.

What was your first shooting experience like? Do you remember the exact make and model of what you shot? Tell us your story.
