It's Worth The Risk

"Successful people take more risks and are more willing to fail than unsuccessful people."

This quote has been stuck in my head after a recent conversation I had with a friend.

What's holding you back?

It's safe to say we all have that one adventure, that one project, that one risk, that one thing that excites us but fear holds us back. We have self-limiting beliefs that we tell ourselves, not enough time, not enough money, I will do that when such and such happens and the excuse list goes on and on.

I know that if Dad would've waited for the "perfect time" to start there would be no Volquartsen Firearms. I was too young to know for sure but I am guessing with a wife and four kids there was no "perfect time" to give up that guaranteed paycheck.

I can't tell you how many times we are asked why we focus on rimfire products. In fact, some customers seem shocked to find out we have been able to sustain a business by doing only rimfires.

What if we listened to all the naysayers when we decided to narrow our focus to the rimfire market?

"It'll never work long term."

"It's just a rimfire, why does it need to to be built like that?"

So why do we focus so much on the rimfire market?

That's easy - it's what we love to do. For the past 30 years we have lived and breathed rimfires. Yes we like the larger calibers as much as anybody else but when it comes down to it there are few cartridges as fun as the 22 LR. It's the round that most of us were introduced to shooting with and regardless of what else you shoot now I am willing to bet there is a 22 LR somewhere in gun safe.

For most people, they probably put more rimfire rounds downrange throughout the course of the year than any other caliber.

This singular focus is what drives our desire to "build it better." Yes, we are just like anybody else and can be easily distracted in today's world but we always come back to what we know and do best and that is rimfire rifles, pistols and aftermarket parts.

I encourage you to find that one thing, step out of your comfort zone and give it a try. Whether it be competing for the first time, going on that hunt that you have been putting off, or starting that hobby that "you haven't had time for."
