The Art of Shooting Part 1 - Katie Pavlich

Katie-Pavlich-VQ-Wall-CroppedKatie with our new Summit 17 WSM

A brief history. For the last few years we've been honored to work with conservative commentator, 2nd Amendment advocate, and author Katie Pavlich. Katie has been a contributing editor to Townhall Magazine, a Fox News contributor, alternate co-host for The Five, a Washington fellow for National Review, and has appeared on local and national radio for numerous channels. Katie has also authored two books: Fast and Fast and Furious: Barack Obama's Bloodiest Scandal and Its Shameless Cover-Up (2012) and Assault & Flattery: The Truth About the Left and Their War on Women (2014).

This past November we were honored to host Katie and her husband, Gavy here in Carroll, Iowa. It was great to be able to give them a behind-the-scenes look at our manufacturing facilities. We were also able to get in some range time, as well as tour the Templeton Rye Distillery, and then enjoyed some local BBQ.

Katie was gracious enough to write an article to be included in our 2020 retail catalog.

The Art of Shooting

The art of shooting is a thrilling and individual one. Performance requires focus, patience, and the management of a tool being used to accomplish a downrange goal. Improvement takes discipline, perseverance, and dedication. The contour and weight of a handgun feels different for everyone. The stock of a rifle or shotgun is unique for each shoulder. And when you pull the trigger, whether standing, kneeling, or prone, you are in charge.

But while shooting as a sport ultimately comes down to personal skill and an individual relationship with a firearm, sharing this pastime and the constitutional right to keep and bear arms with friends or new shooters is tremendously rewarding. This is especially true given the sport naturally exudes curiosity.

I often get requests to “go shooting” from people who are unfamiliar with the sport. Those who show up for the first time are often optimistically cautious and tepid, but leave educated and empowered. They want to come back, work on their new skill set and ultimately pass their experience onto others.
