Not To Be Taken For Granted

SHOT-Show-2020-Booth

Have you ever found yourself staring at a list, seemingly a mile long, dwelling on all the tasks you "have to do"?

I have found myself in that place every January for the last 25 years. If I'm being honest, I started taking it for granted.

You see, for many of us in the firearms industry, this January feels a lot different. What would have been our final week leading into SHOT Show week has brought with it the reality that Sunday afternoon we will not be touching down in Las Vegas.

I am going to miss seeing familiar faces, sharing stories, and catching up on all things firearms related. Truth be told, Las Vegas in January is also a good reprieve from the cold and snow in Iowa.

As with many things in life, it's the subtle changes that can make all the difference. I have been fortunate enough to be able to attend SHOT Show for the past 25 years. I began taking it for granted, viewing it as list of tasks I needed to check off rather than a group of experiences I'm fortunate enough to have. A simple shift in the way we think about something can completely change our perception of it going forward.

While it's disappointing not attending SHOT Show, I prefer to never dwell on situations out of my control. I would rather figure out how I can turn an unfortunate situation into an unforeseen opportunity, and that's exactly what I plan to do in this case.

There's nothing I enjoy more than getting out and talking to you. In 2021 that is exactly what we are planning to do. Dealer events, matches, new products, and everything in between. We are confident 2021 will be bringing more of us together and we plan to take full advantage of it.

What is an area of your life where you can turn something you "have to do" into something you "get to do"?
