Long Range Fun with a .22When you think about long range shooting, a 22 LR is probably not the first thing that comes to mind. However, with proper training and the right equipment it can be a great way to work on your long range game. A 22 LR at 200 yards requires the ability to gauge the wind, calculate hold over, and understand your optics in order to be successful. These same techniques are used with your centerfires at 600+ yards. There are several advantages to working on your skills with a 22 LR.
The 22 LR is also a great way to introduce new shooters to the long range game. Teaching them how to properly use an optic, learn their holdovers, and manage their breathing to execute the shot. We were fortunate to be able to put this to the test at an event called WinterStrong. In less than ideal conditions, we had shooters - some who were firing a firearm for the first time - routinely hitting targets out to 220 yards. They had the benefit of working with some of the best instructors I have seen which was a great reminder to me that no matter how much range time you have - there's always a chance to learn when you surround yourself with the right people. If this is something you are interested in, stay tuned as we have something pretty cool in the works that I think we will all be able to learn something from. So if you’re looking at trying your hand at some long range shooting, don’t overlook the 22 LR. Committed to Building it Better, |
