Always be willing to learn

“The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.”

The older I get, the more I realize how right Albert Einstein was with this quote.

How many times have you heard somebody on a range say, "Yeah, but it has always worked for me?" I always attribute that to how many of us were taught to shoot. We learned from our Dad or Grandfather, who learned from theirs. Over time, we make these methods work; however it might be the very thing that's holding us back from becoming a better shooter. We become so set in our ways that we are afraid to try something new in fear of how we may look to our peers.

Call it pride, call it ego, or it could be as simple as what we are comfortable with but that doesn't necessarily make it right. This method has probably been good enough to get us by. We also know trying something new means we may actually need to take two steps backward before moving forward. We hesitate even though we know eventually our skillset will be better in the long run.

No Excuse To Miss Episode 40 Cover

Growing up in the firearms business, I was almost scared to say, "I don't know" when it came to anything firearms related and would try to bluff my way through it. The more I surrounded myself with subject matter experts, the more I learned. It became apparent I had so much more to learn and it became easier to say "I don't know" or "tell me more about that."

In episode 40 of our No Excuse to Miss Podcast, we sit down with former Marine, Michael "Buck" Baccellieri, and discuss some of these exact same topics and how he, even as a former sniper and sniper instructor, still learns every time he is on the range. In fact, it was just a few short years ago he completely reconstructed his pistol shooting to try and improve.

We also touch on some common myths regarding rifle scopes and some things to consider before your next scope purchase.

Listen to Episode 40 for these takeaways and more!
