How Our Competition Bolt Is Different

At first glance, it might be hard to see how our Competition Bolt for the Ruger® 10/22® differs from any other bolt on the market. However, if you break it down, the differences become more apparent.

Let's start with the finish. Our bolts feature a DLC coating that provides many performance advantages and cosmetic benefits.

10/22 Competition Bolt

What does the DLC coating do?

  • Increased hardness
  • Low residual stress
  • Increased lubricity
  • Low coefficient of friction
  • Improved wear resistance

This all sounds good, but what does this do for you from a practical standpoint? It means less maintenance and more shooting. The bolt requires minimal cleaning and lubrication. We recommend a couple of lubrication drops on the bolt and nothing more.

If you have spent any time shooting rimfires suppressed, you know how prone they are to failure-to-fire (FTF) and failure-to-extract (FTE). Combining the DLC coating and the minimal lubrication required is a game changer.

In addition to the finish, our bolts use a round firing pin design. Why round versus the factory design? It enables the firing pin to move directly forward and back without up and down movement. This design provides a more consistent firing pin strike. We have also shortened the distance the firing pin travels, enabling us to utilize a titanium firing pin for faster lock time.

Lastly, our bolts feature a more robust wire-EDM cut extractor pinned into place.

If you want to put more rounds downrange and invest less time into maintenance, the Competition Bolt for the Ruger® 10/22® is your answer.
