Disproving a Rimfire Myth
Shooting suppressed rimfire firearms is about as fun as it gets. However, it usually comes with a disclaimer - it’s fun but dirty. As a result, you'll have functioning issues and there’s no way around it. We disagree! We disproved that prevailing thought this past weekend at the East Valley Tactical range day. There were more than 800 shooters out at the Ben Avery range.
Running 3,000 rounds through four different firearms with suppressors from three different manufacturers seems like a recipe for disaster right? What if I told you we ran all four completely dry with zero cleaning throughout the day? Would you believe there were zero functioning issues over an 8-hour range day? It's true! So how did we do this? The answer is our DLC-Coated Competition bolts. This process allows us to run our bolts dry or with minimal lubrication. This is critical when shooting rimfire and even more so when shooting suppressed. The more lubricant applied, the more the residue adheres to the bolt, and you have a mess before long. Too often the “fix” on the range is to add more lubricant only further complicating the problem. Secondly, we have to give credit to the suppressors we used: The Rugged Mustang, Rugged Oculus, Dead Air Mask, and the new Flow 22 Ti from HuxWrx were the four suppressors used and each one was up to the task. The ammo used throughout the day was CCI Standard Velocity. So that leaves our firearms. Our Mini-Scorpion, 4.5” Black Mamba, and two Superlite rifles were the firearms of choice. Different style firearms but with one common feature - the DLC-coated Competition Bolt. This Competition Bolt is available for your Ruger MK series pistol or Ruger 10/22 style rifle. |
