Are you a DIYer?

Are you a do-it-yourselfer? I wasn't aware there was such a thing as "DIY day" until somebody pointed out to me that yesterday was that day. Hearing that made me think back to the late 1980s and the introduction of our first DIY kit for the Ruger MKII pistol.

I remember being a teenager, constantly bothering Dad to let me try and do more in the shop. After years of watching what he was doing, I was confident I knew what I was doing. I may or may not have been wrong.

One of the first projects he let me work on was learning to disassemble and reassemble the Ruger® MKII pistol. He figured the best way to learn was the same way he learned, through trial and error, so all I was given was a frame, some parts, the necessary tools, and the solid advice to "see if you can figure this out."

For anybody who can remember the first time they disassembled (or, more importantly, reassembled) a Ruger® MKII or MKIII, I learned it wasn't as easy as Dad made it seem.

This was long before the internet and all of the how-to videos were available, but Dad had his reasons for letting me figure it out. I not only needed to know how to disassemble and reassemble the pistol, but I would also have to relay these exact instructions over the phone to customers facing the same battle trying to install our Accurizing Kit into their pistol.

I can't tell you how often I would be on a call for an hour or more trying to help a customer figure out the mainspring housing latch on their pistol. Frustrations would mount on both ends, but we could usually figure it out. In those cases where that didn't happen, we received a bag of parts and took care of it from there.

On a side note, thinking of gunsmiths such as my Dad and others from his generation, it always amazes me what they could figure out without the assistance of the information we now take for granted with the internet, YouTube, and manufacturer's videos.

Fast-forward to today. Ruger's push-button system on the MK IV™ and MK IV 22/45™ has eliminated many frustrations. This feature alone has made installing our Accurizing Kits much easier for DIYers.

If you combine the push-button takedown with the number of videos available online, including our complete installation video, many customers can complete the installation. It's one of those situations where the first time may take a couple of hours, but the second time around, whether for another install or a thorough cleaning, it can be completed in a fraction of the time.

There's no better way to improve the trigger on your Ruger® MK IV™ pistol than our complete Accurizing Kit, whether you complete the installation yourself or decide to have us do it for you.
