Below are some common questions we receive regarding our Competition Pistol Uppers.

Why does the upper have to ship to an FFL?

This question comes up more than any other, but the quick answer is that this is the serial-numbered component of the pistol. Unlike most pistols, the Ruger MK series pistol displays the serial number on the upper, not the frame. For this reason, both the Scorpion and Mamba uppers must ship to a licensed (FFL) dealer.

Which upper will fit my frame?

The Scorpion LLV uppers fit Ruger® MKII and MKIII frames (including the original 22/45 and MKIII 22/45). The Scorpion upper will also fit our VF Target Frame (both the Target and 1911-style). The Mamba LLV uppers fit any Ruger® MK IV or MK IV 22/45™ frame.

What else do I need to complete my build besides the upper?

You will need a lower frame, a bolt, and magazines. The Ruger® factory bolt and our Competition Bolt are compatible with our uppers.

Can I install a suppressor?

Yes. Most of our uppers feature 1/2 x 28 muzzle threads. If your upper includes a compensator, you will also receive a wrench to remove the existing compensator, leaving you with 1/2 x 28 threads. If your local regulations do not allow threaded barrels, we also offer non-threaded options.

What is different about the Scorpion-X and Mamba-X uppers?

Our X-uppers are set up for optics only. These uppers are drilled & tapped to accommodate most red dot mounting platforms. There are no provisions for iron sights on the X-uppers.

Do I need to make any additional changes if I decide to purchase a different length upper?

No. If you stay with the same style upper as you currently have, you can install a 3", 4.5", or 6" upper.

What material is the upper manufactured from?

The shroud is Type-III hard-anodized aluminum. The barrel is made of stainless steel. The stainless steel breech has also been laser-hardened for increased longevity.

Our Competition Uppers are identical to those featured on our complete Black Mamba and Scorpion pistols. They are lightweight and balanced, providing unmatched accuracy from a pistol.
